Journalists kicked out of Nyandarua County Assembly

Journalists were allegedly attacked and barred from covering proceedings at the Nyandarua County Assembly over a leadership wrangles that have hampered sessions.

The incident came ahead of an impeachment motion against Speaker Wahome Ndegwa who was blocked by a section of MCAs from accessing the Assembly chambers.

Security officers at the Assembly allegedly attacked the journalists before kicking them out of the premises.

Several journalists among them Royal Media Services reporter Patris Simbili of Inooro Fm sustained injuries on his head.

Radio Africa journalist Ndichu Wainana had his Press card confiscated during the attack.

Nation Media’s Waikwa Maina, Kameme FM’s James Mugo, Sauti ya Mwananchi’s Javan Kamau are also among those attacked during the incident.

Journalists are also said to have received threats from leaders in the Assembly over unbalanced reporting claims.

The chaos forced the Speaker to adjourn the session.

Assembly’s  MCAs are accusing Wahome Ndegwa of failing to recognise new leaders of the House elected on September 27.
