Jubilee big winner in National Assembly, Senate nominations

Jubilee Party has taken 16 seats out of  the 32 vacancies slated for Member of Parliament nominees in 12th Parliament, leading as the party with majority members in the National Assembly.

In the Kenya Gazette Notice No. 8379, dated August 25, 2017, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) listed nominated MPs and Senators with their respective parties.

Jubilee takes the lead with MP nominees occupying 6 seats. The nominees include Maina Kamanda, who is the former Starehe Member of Parliament and has been nominated to represent Special Interest groups while Cecily Mbarire and Jeniffer Shamalla, Gideon Keter nominated to represent the youth, while  Mucheke Halima Yussuf nominated to represent workers and David ole Sankok for persons with disabilities.

The Orange Democratic Party which is among the five party affiliates of the NASA coalition has scooped 3 MP seats. KNUT Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, who disaffiliated himself from the nominee post due to ‘overwhelming commitment’ in the education sector is among the three gazetted ODM nominees. The other two are Prof. Jacquiline Adhiambo Oduol who is to represent marginalized women and Denitah Ghati to represent persons with disability.

Other nominated MPs are  Godfrey Osotsi of the Amani National Congress (ANC), Nasri Sahal Ibrahim in the minority category and Sammy Kipkorir Seroney  of Wiper.

In the Senate, women take the biggest share with Jubilee Party taking home 10 slots in the Senate House, eight women and two men. The nominated members include Millicent Omanga, Beth Mugo, Milgo Alice Chepkorir, Christine Zawadi Gona, Mary Yiane Senata, Falhada Dekow Iman, Naomi Jilo Wago and Farhiya  Ali  Haji.  To represent the youth is  Prengei Victor of Jubilee Party together with Isaac Mwaura, who will stand for People with Disability.

ODM takes a total of 7 Senatorial seats where all are women: Judith Ramaita Pareno, Beatrice Kwamboka Makori, Masitsa Naomi Shiyonga, Rose Ogendo Nyamunga, Mercy Chebeni, who will represent the youth, and Getrude Musuruve Inimah represents persons with disabilities.

Other nominees in the Senate include Petronila Were Lokorio of ANC, Abshiro Soka Halake of KANU and Sylvia Mueni Kasanga of Wiper.
