Jubilee implementing laws selectively ODM

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has accused Jubilee administration of implementing selectively a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta that all Kenyans of age 18 years and above be issued with identity cards within three days of application.

ODM says that thousands of ID applicants in Western Kenya have been frustrated since administrative officers who ought to sign the required documents are slow and unavailable.

Party members are strongly convinced that the officials must have been given directives from the Interior Ministry not to serve in perceived opposition strongholds.

In a press statement signed by the party national chairman and Suba MP, John Mbadi, residents from the region feel that the state is operating unfairly and with discrimination instead of being a government that should serve right.

On the same, the party has cautioned the government officials to be ready for the outcomes that might arise from the discriminatory actions.

However, the party members have appealed to its supporters to push for their IDs, as it was their right as Kenyan citizens to acquire the document.

They further asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to put aside tribal politics and serve all citizens with equality.

During a voters registration mobilizing campaign in Isiolo, President Kenyatta ordered the Registrar of Persons and other government agencies to reduce the issuance of National Identification from the current two weeks to three days, so that all youths and citizens be able to participate in the on-going Mass Voters Registration.

On the same day, the Head of State cautioned officers who asked for bribes to be ready to face serious penalties for engaging in the crime.
