Jubilee to continue honouring heroes MP Waweru

Dagoretti South Member of Parliament, Dennis Waweru, says that the Jubilee government is committed to honouring heroes and heroines who have contributed to the country’s development in one way or the other.

Speaking after visiting the ailing football legend Joe Kadenge at his South B, Nairobi home on Thursday, October 20, Waweru said that Kadenge is a true picture of a Shujaa.

He said that he will work with other leaders and the Jubilee administration to rehabilitate the ailing football legend.
“On this Mashujaa Day, it is critical for us, as a country, to recognize those who laid the foundation for us,” he said.

“Kadenge is one such person.”

Waweru noted that Kadenge was a gem in the history of Kenya and must be treated as such.

A fortnight ago, Kadenge was hospitalized after collapsing while watching a football match at a city stadium.

Kadenge rose to fame following his unmatched football skills that signaled the famous ‘Kadenge na mpira’ phrase that still remains fresh in the minds of many. He was arguably the best striker in Kenya’s football history.

In the 60s, he played for Maragoli United where he held the record for the fastest ever goal scorer in the Kenyan Premier League before joining the Abuluhya United, now AFC Leopards, and leading it to lifting the Kenyan Premier League title in 1966.

In 2002, he managed the Kenya National Football team and was succeeded by Jacob Mulee in 2003. In 2005, he was unveiled as a Hall of Famer in the SOYA Awards.

In 2010, he was invited by Fifa to represent East and Central Africa in gracing the opening ceremony of the World Cup finals in South Africa. In 2012, he was appointed the First Kenya Football Ambassador by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
