Judiciary says story of Nairobi woman sued for ‘eating fare’ is fake

Kenyan woman not charged for 'eating fare'.

The Kenyan Judiciary has labelled widespread reports that a Nairobi woman was charged in the Milimani Small Claims court for ‘eating fare’ as fake.

In a social media post, the legal body shared a snippet of the story that has gone viral, labelling it fake.

Citizen Digital further conducted a fact check on a picture of the said woman in court that was shared online, including on the social media page of ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The photo, where a woman was seen standing in between two police officers in court was taken in 2018.

The accused person in the picture taken by Nation publication is identified as Judith Wandera, who was jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of defilement and performing indecent act with a minor.

The widespread reports that the Judiciary has labelled fake indicated that a woman had been ordered by the Small Claims Court to pay her boyfriend Kshs 23,750.

This was allegedly after the man sent him Kshs 3,000 to pay for a taxi to attend the man’s birthday party but she failed to show up and switched off her phone. This ‘offence’ in the Kenyan streets is popularly called ‘eating fare’.

The misleading information further stated that “the man was excited after the ruling as the lady cried and cursed the magistrate for the harsh punishment.”

So, fellow Kenyans, a woman is yet to be charged for eating fare!
