Julius Wambua who was ‘framed’ for raping daughter to be retried, freed on Ksh.30K cash bail

Julius Wambua, the man whose story aired on Citizen TV’s segment Prison Diaries when his daughter recanted evidence in the rape case, will be retried.

On Wednesday, the court ruled that he be released on Ksh. 30,000 cash bail pending trial.

“The case should begin afresh and all sentences by the Kithimani Court and High Court be quashed,” Justice George Odunga ruled.

The Judge further noted that Wambua is deemed an innocent person and there are no compelling reasons to deny him bond.

Wambua had been serving a life sentence after he was found guilty of defiling his daughter in 2011.

His story aired on Citizen TV’s segment Prison Diaries in March 2019, when his daughter recanted her evidence alleging that the entire defilement case was choreographed by her mother for personal gain.

Dorcas Wambua sensationally claimed that she was coached by her mother to accuse the father of raping her.

Dorcas said that nine years later, she regrets a decision that had pinned her father to a lifetime prison sentence.

For Dorcas, the father was serving a prison term wrongfully out of a coalition of convenience formed between herself and her mother.
