Just like Oparanya, expect more graft-related arrests targeting Azimio leaders- MP Patrick Munene

Chuka Igambang'ombe MP Patrick Munene.

Patrick Munene, Member of Parliament for Chuka Igambang'ombe, believes that leaders associated with the Azimio la Umoja coalition will be arrested on corruption charges.

According to MP Munene, all leaders who were part of Azimio during President Uhuru Kenyatta's tenure will now be held accountable for the shady deals they engaged in while in their respective offices.

Speaking on Citizen TV's Daybreak Show on Thursday, he claimed that it was unfeasible to arrest the leaders since they had full immunity from the government.

"You will see most of the leaders who will be arrested in the next one year and it will not be a coincidence they will come from Azimio's side," he said.

"What happened when Azimio was formed and it made government and Uhuru Kenyatta was made their leader they ran a rampage because they were immune then. Those of us who were in Tangatanga could not have even attempted corruption because even a shilling in your M-Pesa was followed."

He said this as he chimed in on the arrest of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya in relation to the alleged embezzlement of Ksh. 1.3 billion during his two-term tenure as Governor of Kakamega County.

The ex-governor was questioned on Wednesday by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives alongside his spouses, who were also accused of benefiting from the alleged scam.

EACC Deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud noted that Oparanya's probe is part of numerous high-impact investigations into loss of public funds that the Commission is undertaking in various County Governments, adding that the operations are at different stages.

MP Munene dismissed claims that the matter is being politicised saying that justice is simply being served.

"EACC said that this is a matter they were investigating for a long time from 2013 until when it reached to the real culprit."
