Justin Muturi has defended his record as speaker of the National Assembly saying he has done his best to serve all the sides of the political divide.

Speaking at Kangaru School during the Embu Academic Excellence Day, Muturi said that though he was made speaker majorly by Jubilee legislators he has not shied away from executing his mandate impartially during proceedings at the August House.

Mr Muturi noted that as a speaker he is still a Kenyan citizen and thus has a right to belong to a certain political orientation, though noting that this has not clouded his judgment in House sessions.

He also took issue with the opposition criticising him for apparently favoring the government at the chamber saying that “the majority will always have their way while the minorities have their say.”

Muturi said that democracy comes with responsibility and therefore the opposition should exercise their freedom of expression and democracy by expressing themselves in a manner that is responsible.

“I am not ashamed to stand before any congregation and admit that I became speaker because I belong to the Jubilee family. But when am on the chair I have to listen to both sides.”

“When am out here I am not on the chair and have therefore to belong somewhere. I cannot stop attending Jubilee functions just because Jubilee leaders will also be in attendance.”

In his address, Senate Majority leader Kithure Kindiki stated that the government is solidly behind Justin Muturi saying his performance as speaker has been exemplary.
