According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), three police officers from Oloosirkon Police Station had been dispatched to arrest suspects involved in an assault and malicious damage case in Ngurunga, Emakoko.
Following the arrest of one suspect, Soipen Samuel, the area MCA is alleged to have arrived with a group of more than ten people armed with sticks and knives.
The group is said to have assaulted the lone officer who was guarding the suspect, freeing him in the process.
"With a pistol at hand, the MCA also led the group to attack the police vehicle amidst threats," the DCI said.
The commotion alerted the two officers inside the house searching for more suspects, leading them to come to their colleague's rescue and fend off the attackers.
Following the incident, DCI Isinya took over the investigations and forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), who cleared it for a prosecution process.
The MCA was charged with three counts: Misuse of a firearm, willfully obstructing a police officer on duty and creating a disturbance.
