Kakamega: Woman arrested after killing brother over a mattress

Police in kakamega are detaining a 20-year-old woman, who allegedly stabbed her brother to death after a confrontation over a mattress went sour.

According to the family, Oscar Shioso, 24, had confiscated a mattress that his sister Margaret  was supposed to use, prompting a fight that led to his death.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Sunday, Oscar's wife Catherine Chimanwa said that she confronted Margaret after the incident who made light of the attack, claiming that the stab was not severe.

"I told her this is your brother and you could have just beat him up because a mattress costs only Sh 2000 but she said that she has not done much damage and the knife has not hurt him because he is still breathing," Catherine said.

The  family added that the siblings have been in a long standing battle, over a relationship between the 24 year old and a police officer attached to the Shiongo patrol base.

Oscar is said to have warned his sister over the relationship, prompting bad blood between the two.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the Kakamega county morgue with the suspect remaining in custody to aid in investigations.
