Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said
the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) had already reached a power-sharing agreement before his
Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Musalia Mudavadi bolted out.
Kalonzo said under the deal, he would have
been the coalition’s presidential candidate with Mudavadi as the running mate.
He would then have served for only five years
and backed Mudavadi, in the event that they won the election.
“Kama
ndugu hawa wawili waliniacha mimi na Gideon Moi, hakuna ubaya, I wish them luck.
And I want to tell you mimi nilikuwa tayari kumpatia ndugu Musalia Mudavadi
sasa ata sijui huko ameenda atapatiwa nini,” said Kalonzo at a rally in Makueni
on Friday.
Kalonzo added that they had also agreed that
he would be a one-term president to allow his running mate to take over the
mantle in the second term.
“Nilikuwa
nimepropose, mimi at 68 nataka tu kurekebisha Kenya and hand over to the youth,
after five years nilikuwa tayari nimwambie ndugu Mudavadi I will now support
you openly so that we also can show Kenyans kunaweza kuwa viongozi whose word
is their bond,” he said.
Makueni Senator Mutula
Kilonzo Jnr, on his part, said: “Kuna majamaa wawili, mmoja anaitwa Prof. Kivutha
Kibwana, mwingine anaitwa Prof. Makau Mutua…hawa profesa wawili waliweka sahihi
2017 wakisema Raila atasupport Kalonzo…sasa mnapigia Kalonzo simu ati akuwe
speaker.”
down and support Kalonzo,” added Machakos Senator Agnes Muthama.
With the alliance now forced to go back to the
drawing board, the leaders said they are seeking new partners as the fight off
pressure to join their rivals.
Posed businessman Jimi
Wanjigi.
With all three governors from the region
opposing his bid, Kalonzo said they all owe their success to him and he won’t
back down.
“Wote hawa, hakuna
ubaya, safari hii sitakubali kutumiwa…I said this time I will negotiate myself
in the future of this nation,” said Kalonzo.
