The family of the late James Kanyotu, Kenya's former spy chief, has taken a step toward resolving a 17-year legal battle over his vast estate by settling internally.

In a rare display of unity, Kanyotu's widows, Mary Kanyotu and Jane Kanyotu, have agreed to reconcile and settle their long-standing differences amicably.

The move marks a departure from years of litigation that has ensnared the family in complicated legal battles.

In a statement, the family stated that they will dismiss their respective legal teams and appoint a single advocate to represent all beneficiaries in the ongoing succession proceedings.

This decision, they said, aims to streamline proceedings and foster cohesion among the heirs.

The family has also expressed concerns about the disposition of the late Kanyotu's property.

They allege that a substantial number of assets were sold off over the years, yet the returns received were disproportionately low.

To ensure fairness and clarity in estate distribution, the family has requested that all siblings undergo new DNA testing in order to accurately determine who the rightful beneficiaries are.

The late James Kanyotu, who served as the Director of Intelligence in Kenya for decades, died in 2008.

His death sparked a drawn-out succession battle, reportedly due to the size and complexity of his estate.
