Karura Forest shifts to eCitizen for entry, parking payments

Visitors to Nairobi’s Karura Forest will now be required to make all entry and parking payments exclusively through the government’s eCitizen platform, in line with the National Treasury’s directive to phase out non-designated payment systems.

In a statement, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) announced that starting Friday, August 29, 2025, payments for gate entry, parking, and related services within the forest, including the Sigiria block, must be processed through the official eCitizen Paybill number 222222.

KFS explained that the move aligns with a wider government initiative to enhance transparency, security, and efficiency in the collection of public revenues.

"This transition is part of a nationwide initiative to improve transparency, security, and efficiency in public service delivery while making your experience more convenient."

“All other activities and services in Karura Forest will continue as usual, and our collaboration with the Community Forest Association remains unchanged,” KFS assured in its notice.

The forest, a popular recreational and conservation space in Nairobi, attracts thousands of visitors for jogging, cycling, nature walks, and picnics.

Officials noted that the shift to the digital payment system will not disrupt normal operations.
