Little-known
Segero Chesowos Adventist School in Trans Nzoia County has become the talk of town
after the school managed to beat the stereotype associated with it and sent all
its candidates to university.
Located
deep in Kisawai Village in Trans Nzoia County, the day school obtained a mean
score of 8.6, registering a C+ as the lowest grade in the just-released
results.
The
school principal has attributed the performance to group effort saying teachers
worked closely with parents from the little-known village to produce the best
mean score yet.
Jubilant
songs broke the calm at Kisawai village in Saboti constituency as parents,
teachers, students and villagers joined in celebrating their achievement.
“Our
mean score is 8.62 with 9 students scoring B+. We have 27 Bs, 18 B-, we have
eight C+s, and that is our last grade,” Eric Ondenge, the school principal, said.
Gloria
Cherotich, the top student, stated: “We thank our teachers for the support and the main reason
for us passing this examination is because our teachers were attending the
evening class as well as the morning class.”
Granton
Wekesa, who also sat his KCSE exams at Segero Chesowos, made his family proud
by attaining university entry marks and experiencing a renewal of sorts. He
says his spirit had waned after he scored 244 marks in KCPE.
“Sikuqualify kuenda shule kubwa sasa ndio nikaitwa huko
nikaenda huko lakini bado nilikuwa na matumaini ya kuenda chuo kikuu,” Wekesa noted.
Despite
the hardships in the area, all 62 students who sat their KCSE exams at Segero
Chesowos Adventist School will proceed to university, a fete the school
principal said was largely contributed to by developing a cordial relationship
with parents and other stakeholders
“Hapa
tuko kwa kijiji na kipato cha wazazi wengi hapa is not that high so we have
given room for parents who can pay fees in material form, for example, there
are farmers that are here,” Principal Ondenge said.
Even
as they bask in their glory, the community of the Segero Chesowos Adventist
school is aiming at a higher mean score in this year's national exams and
hoping to soar from that point.
