KDF begins reconstruction of schools vandalised by bandits in Baringo
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has commenced
the reconstruction of schools vandalized by bandits in Baringo South
constituency.
The affected schools include; Arabal,
Kapindasum, Kasiela, Sinoni, Nosukro, Ramacha, Rukus, Chebinyiny, Karne Emboss,
Tuiyotichi and Chemorongion primary schools.
While some of the schools have been able to
operate intermittently, Rukus, Ramacha, Katilomwa and Ngelecha have remained
closed since the conflicts erupted in 2005.
With a designated budget of Ksh.100 million,
the project aims to restore normalcy to the affected institutions while
providing a safe learning environment for students.
Speaking during a visit to Kapindasum and
Arabal Primary Schools, Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa outlined the
schools' revamping plans which he said will be carried out in two phases.
Phase 1 will involve refurbishing vandalised
classrooms while the second phase will see the construction of new classrooms.
Mr. Kutwa was accompanied by a team of KDF
officers led by Brigadier Ahmed Asman.
Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren on his part
urged locals displaced by the banditry attacks to return to their homes and
allow their children to resume schooling.
He emphasized the importance of open
communication between the administration and parents to facilitate their safe
return.
