Kenneth Langat has been appointed as the Special Economic Zones Authority's (SEZA) new CEO.

Langat will serve in the position for three years, according to a gazette notice issued by Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Wednesday.

The appointment was made by the authority's board of directors in accordance with the Special Economic Zones Act (No. 16 of 2015).

Dr. Langat has 20 years of experience and previously served as the Director of Partnership, Strategy, Research, and Resource Mobilization.

He was previously the Chief Research Scientist and Deputy Director of the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI).

He has also worked for Johnson & Johnson in the United Kingdom, Summit Medical in the United Kingdom, and the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom, as well as an Executive MBA from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). 

Some of his major achievements include national and institutional policy development initiatives, the establishment of the Nairobi Surgical Skill's Centre (NSSC) for the training of African surgeons, nurses, and healthcare workers. 

He was honored by former Namibia president Sam Nujoma in 2003 for his contributions to the development of computer programs for African rural schools.
