Kenya Airways Faces Inquiry over Museveni ‘Snub’

The mps are concerned that the incident may embarrass the country.

"The investigation was needed because of the potential embarrassment to Kenya," Tetu mp Ndung'u Gethenji said.

Kenya Airways declined a request by President Yoweri Museveni to pick him up from his home town in western Uganda on 20 February, 2015.

President Museveni then flew to the regional heads of state meeting, hosted by Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

STANDARD INDUSTRY PRACTICE

Mr Gethenji further stated that he was not aware of an official complaint against the airline, but added that the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, which he chairs, would investigate the icident.

"It is part of the committee's mandate to try and understand anything that could potentially embarrass the government or damage relations with a friendly nation," said the Tetu legislator.

The committee also will also seek to understand whether it is standard industry practice for the airline to charter flights, and if it was, then why in this instance did it fail to do so?

Kenya Airways has not said why it rejected President Museveni's request, however, the company has said that the incident was regrettable..
