Kenya deports American Isaac Sturgeon wanted over U.S. Capitol riot

Kenyan authorities have deported an American citizen who was hiding in the country following his role in the U.S. Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021.

Isaac Sturgeon was picked up by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) soon after landing at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Saturday following his deportation.

According to official documents seen by Citizen Digital, Sturgeon was captured on police body camera on the said date on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol building wearing a green jacket, green scarf, grey knit hat and dark backpack.

He is accused of, among other things, picking up a metal police barricade and shoving it into the officers in the company of others.

“On January 16, 2021, the FBI posted to its website a photograph of Sturgeon, among others, seeking the public’s assistance in identifying him. Through tips and open source searches, law enforcement identified several social media accounts associated with Sturgeon, including an Instagram account with several pictures and comments describing the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021,” read the documents.

“One of the photos posted on or about January 6, 2021 showed Sturgeon among other protesters at the Capitol grounds, wearing the same outfit captured on the body camera footage.”

An individual who knew Sturgeon reportedly informed the FBI that he travelled frequently and had access to numerous weapons.

The FBI obtained a Facebook account associated with Sturgeon containing a photo posted on November 28, 2020, showing him carrying a rifle.

He reportedly travelled to Kenya on January 24, 2021, and purchased a return ticket to the U.S departing on April 5, 2021.

His trip was however cut short by Kenyan authorities who nabbed and deported him before his return date.
