Senior Kenya Kwanza leaders on Sunday launched a sharp attack against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of promoting division and personal politics instead of supporting the government’s development agenda.

Speaking during a church service at Kanuni New Life Church in Igembe South Constituency, Meru County, the leaders defended President William Ruto’s administration and dismissed claims that the government had sidelined the Mt Kenya region.

The service was attended by Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi, Igembe Central MP Dan Kiili, and MP Mpuru Aburi.

Igembe South MP John Paul said he remained firmly behind President Ruto, noting that the Head of State had honoured development promises made to his constituents.

“I cannot question the President. He has made promises and delivered projects for my people,” John Paul said, urging leaders to focus on service delivery rather than political wrangles.

Igembe Central MP Dan Kiili took a more direct swipe at Gachagua, accusing him of misleading leaders and residents under the guise of regional unity.

“You told us to follow you, but follow you where?” Kiili posed. “We later realised you were selling a selfish agenda. You wanted to drag us into politics of division. We will remain here and support the government of the day.”

Kiili further warned that divisive politics would not benefit residents, insisting that leaders from the Mt Kenya region should work with the national government to secure development.

Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku accused Gachagua of fuelling hatred against leaders who support President Ruto, saying personal grievances should not be turned into community issues.

“Gachagua has mastered the art of organising hatred against anyone who supports President Ruto,” Ruku said. “That hatred cannot be sold to the people of Mt Kenya. Personal problems should not be used to divide communities.”

Water and Irrigation CS Eric Mugaa echoed the sentiments, calling for unity and cooperation among leaders to ensure government projects are implemented without political distractions.

The leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting President Ruto’s administration, urging residents to ignore what they termed as divisive rhetoric and instead focus on development and national unity.
