Kenya records 10 new COVID-19 infections, positivity rate at 0.5pc

Kenya's Health Ministry reported 10 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, based on a sample of 2,211 people tested in the previous day, bringing the total number of confirmed positive infections to 323,541.

The new infections, with a 0.5 percent positivity rate, bring the total number of tests conducted in the country to 3,549,966.

“From the cases all the 10 are Kenyans. 9 are males while 1 is a female. The youngest is a 15-year-old while the oldest is 65 years old,” the Health Ministry said in a statement to the media. 

Across the country, the new infections are distributed across Nakuru (4 cases), Nairobi (3 cases), and Uasin Gishu with 3 cases.

A total of 14 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 104 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

No patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or on supplemental oxygen or in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU). 

Meanwhile, 21 patients have recovered from the disease in the last one day, all of them from Home Based Isolation and care, according to the Health Ministry. 

The new recoveries push the cumulative tally of recoveries so far to 317,775.

“264,760 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,015 are from various health facilities countrywide,” the MoH added. 

No new deaths were reported Sunday, with the deathtoll since the pandemic was reported remaining at 5,648. 

Vaccination

Kenya has administered 17,756,989 vaccines so far, with a goal of vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033 by the end of 2022.

There have been 16,236,997 doses administered to adults aged 18 and up, with another 1,232,956 doses administered to those aged 15 to 17.

The Ministry of Health has also administered some 287,036 booster doses.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 30.1%.
