Kenya records 9 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate now at 0.2pc

The Ministry of Health has announced that 9 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, out of a total sample size of 4,020, resulting in a positivity rate of 0.2%.

The Ministry said that of the cases, 7 are foreigners and 2 are Kenyans. From these, 8 are males while one is a female and the youngest is a 22-year-old while the oldest is 57 years-old.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of confirmed cases is now 323,281, with 3,470,975 tests completed so far.

The cases were distributed across various counties, with Mombasa having four, Nakuru having two, and Kisumu, Laikipia, and Nairobi each having one case.

According to CS Kagwe, 19 patients are being treated in various health facilities across the country, while 127 are enrolled in the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

One patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and on ventilatory support, according to the Ministry of Health.

“Another 4 patients are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU),” said The Ministry.

On the other hand, 14 patients have recovered from the disease, all of whom were in the Home-Based and Isolation Care programs, bringing the total number of patients who have recovered to 317,581.

Of these, 264,581 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,000 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The Ministry noted that no deaths have been reported in the last24 hours; cumulative fatalities remain at 5,647.

Concerning the vaccination campaign, CS Kagwe stated that as of March 19, 2022, 17,327,143 vaccines had been administered across the country.

He stated that 7,958,937 are partially vaccinated, while 7,932,715 are fully vaccinated.

Another 1,166,866 doses are given to people aged 15 to 17, while 268,625 are booster doses.

“The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 8,541 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 5,783. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 29.1%.” 

The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033 by the end of 2022.
