The Kenya-Somalia border will be re-opened in a phased-out manner within the next 90 days, effective today.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said the Mandera-Bulahawa border point will be opened in the next 30 days. 

The second border point, which is the Liboi-Harahar-Dobley on the Somalia side will be opened 60 days from now.

Kindiki added that the Kiunga-Ras Kamboni border point in Lamu will be opened in at least 90 days from today.

He added that the government is exploring the possibility of adding a fourth border point into Somalia from the Kenyan side in Wajir County.

He was speaking after a meeting with his Somalia counterpart Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali, Defence Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and  Foreign Affairs Minister Abshir Omar Jama.

The high-level ministerial meeting on cross-border cooperation between Kenya and the federal government of Somalia. was also attended by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and other senior government officials.
