Kenya, in partnership with the African Union Commission, has confirmed its readiness to host the Second Africa Urban Forum (AUF2) from April 8–10, 2026 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

The forum, themed “Adequate Housing for All: Advancing Socio-economic and Environmental Transformation towards the Realization of Agenda 2063,” will bring together African Heads of State, ministers, governors, mayors, development partners and urban experts to discuss sustainable urban development.

Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome said the forum will provide a platform to rethink housing as African cities expand rapidly.

“We are honoured to host Africa and the world in Nairobi for AUF2. As African cities expand rapidly, we must reimagine housing as a driver of economic opportunity, innovation and environmental sustainability,” said Wahome.

The African Union also emphasized the importance of the forum in shaping the continent’s urban future.

Mary Mbole-Kariuki noted that Africa must focus on building resilient cities capable of supporting economic growth while addressing climate challenges.

“The next frontier for Africa lies in building cities that are both green and resilient, cities that can withstand climate shocks while unlocking economic opportunities for their citizens,” she said.

Discussions during the forum will focus on affordable housing delivery, climate-resilient infrastructure, smart city innovations and financing mechanisms for inclusive urban growth.

A key outcome of the meeting is expected to be the Nairobi Declaration, which will outline a continental roadmap for sustainable urban development and strengthen Africa’s voice in global urban policy discussions.
