The tournament that will take place in Samburu at the Shaba Sports Shooting Range will have a mix of professional shooters and fun lovers as it will be open to the public in efforts to introduce the sport to the public.
The Ministry of Sports has taken charge and CS Amina Mohammed is expected to grace the occasion that will also see the international president of the Shooting association attend.
Col (Rtd) Joseph Kamari, the Shaba Sports Shooting Range manager, said it was the first time Kenya was hosting the event, describing it as an honour for the country.
"We expect a number of countries to come in. This is an African sport shooting championship that we are hosting for the first time. It is an honour for the country to host this kind of sport. This is a regional match and that is why it is called Africa Level 3 sports shooting match. We expect all 106 African countries to take part in this competition," he said.
He added
that, while the event is an African competition, countries from Europe and Asia
had expressed interest in taking part in the event.
“But what
we have seen from the registration is that we have countries from America,
Europe and Asia coming in. So far about 15 countries have shown interest to
attend. The registration is still open and it is on. So far 150 shooters are in…if
we add our shooters it will go to 200,” he said.
The Shaba range is home to team Chalbi.
There will also be a display of locally manufactured guns which will be in use at the tournament slated for June 18-19, 2022.
The championship will consist of several categories including: Pistol, Pistol Cabin Combined (PCC), and Rifle categories.
