Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 11pc, 773 new cases recorded

Kenya’s coronavirus positivity rate was 11percent on Friday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

Just over 30 days after a lockdown was imposed on five diseased counties, the country’s positivity rate has dropped from 20 percent to around 16 percent.

According to the Ministry of Health, while Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions and fatality rates have decreased significantly, the fragile gains made through lockdown and protocol observance should be guarded jealously.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s cumulative caseload now stands at 155,165, following the announcement of 773 new infections on Friday.

The new infections were discovered in a sample of 7,036 people who had been tested in the previous 24 hours.

The total number of tests done in the country since the pandemic was announced has reached 1,631,699.

The new cases include 754 Kenyans and 19 foreigners, with 450 men and 323 women.

The youngest patient is a seven-day-old baby, while the oldest is 109 years old, according to the Ministry of Health.

A total of 1,469 patients are admitted to various health facilities throughout the country, with 6,795 on Home Based Isolation and Care.

The ICU has 236 patients, 53 of whom require ventilatory support and 153 of whom require supplemental oxygen.

Thirty patients are under observation.

A total of 162 patients are on supplemental oxygen, 150 of whom are in general wards and 12 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 273, Trans Nzoia 66, Mombasa and Nakuru 43 cases each, Uasin Gishu 42, Kericho 32, Kisumu 29, Kiambu and Turkana 23 cases, Kajiado 15, Nyeri and Machakos 14 cases each, Meru and Kisii 13 cases each, Makueni, Embu, Nandi and Nyandarua 11 cases each, Garissa and Bomet 10 cases each, Muranga 9, Kitui 8, Laikipia and Siaya 6 cases each, Kirinyaga 5, Bungoma and Kilifi 4 cases each, Busia, Migori and Baringo 3 cases each, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Nyamira and 3

Taita Taveta 2 cases each, Kakamega, Marsabit, Narok, Samburu Isiolo, Vihiga and West Pokot 1 case each.

According to the docket, the total number of recoveries had risen to 106,093 after 726 patients recovered in the previous 24 hours.

329 new recoveries came from Home Based Care and Isolation, while 397 came from various health centers; health officials consider all cases older than two weeks to be recovered.

At the same time, 23 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours; 10 occurred on various dates within the last month, while 13 were late deaths reported following facility record audits.

According to Ministry of Health data, 2,583 people have died in the country as a result of COVID-19 infection.
