Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 11.8pc as MoH announces 589 new cases

Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity was 11.8 percent on Wednesday, a result of 589 new infections tested from a sample of 4,995 people.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, the new infections bring the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 173,661, with 1,845,884 samples tested.

580 of the new cases are Kenyans, while 9 are foreigners; 343 are men, while 246 are women.

The youngest patient is a five-month-old infant, and the oldest is 101.

Currently, 994 patients are admitted to various health facilities across the country, while 5,049 patients are under the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

114 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 65 on supplemental oxygen. 20 patients under observation.

The new infections are distributed by age as follows; 0-9 years (37), 10-19 years (31), 20-29 years (95), 30-39 (146) 40-49 (108) 50-59 (62) 60 years and above (110).

Across the country, the cases are distributed as follows: Kisumu 100, Nairobi 91, Bungoma 60, Homa Bay 54, Siaya 49, Uasin Gishu 37, Busia 32, Nandi 24, Mombasa 17, Nakuru 17, Kakamega 12, Nyeri 11, Migori 11, Vihiga 9, Kiambu 8, Bomet 7, Meru 7, Kericho 6, Kilifi 6, Kisii 5, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Murang’a 4, Kajiado 3, West Pokot 2, Nyandarua 2, Samburu 1, Taita Taveta 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Turkana 1, Embu 1, Laikipia 1, Machakos 1, Narok 1, Nyamira 1 and Garissa 1.

Meanwhile, 312 patients have recovered from the disease, with 184 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program and 128 from various health facilities across the country.

Total recoveries now stand at 118,933, with 86,338 from the Home Based Care and Isolation program and 32,595 from various health facilities across the country.

At the same time, Kenya’s coronavirus death toll has risen to 3,345 after 19 new cases were reported on Wednesday.

“Sadly, 19 people have been reported to succumb to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of April and May. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,345. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones,” the Ministry said.

The new deaths are distributed by age as follows; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (4), 40-49 years (1), 50-59 years (5), 60 years and above (9).

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (55), 10-19 years (23), 20 29 (110), 30-39 years (273), 40-49 years (412), 50-59 years (692), 60 years and above (1,780).
