Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate at 5.2pc, 317 new cases recorded

Kenya recorded 317 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday from a sample size of 6,129 tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the total cases confirmed so far to 247,675.

According to a Ministry of Health statement, the new infections mark a positivity rate of 5.2 percent.
“From the cases 301 are Kenyans while 16 are foreigners. 160 males while 157 are females. ,” the Health Ministry said on Thursday. “The youngest is a six-day-old infant while the oldest is 99 years. .”

Since the pandemic was reported, Kenya has conducted tests on 2,486,331 samples.

Nairobi leads with the most new infections, reporting 79 followed by Kajiado 36, Uasin Gishu 24 and Kiambu 19.

In the rest of the country, the new cases are distributed as follows: Kisii 17, Isiolo 15, Nakuru 14, Bomet 9, Mombasa 9, Kirinyaga 8, Murang’a 6, Kakamega 6, Nyandarua 6, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Meru 5, Nandi 5, Kericho 4, Kilifi 4, Kitui 4, Bungoma 4, Busia 4, Tana River 4, Embu 4, Nyeri 3, Laikipia 3, Baringo 3, Machakos 3, Garissa 2, Lamu 2, Makueni 2, Migori 2, Narok 2, Kisumu 2, Homa Bay 1 and Siaya 1.

A total of 1,268 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,733 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

96 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 63 of whom are on ventilatory support and 28 on supplemental oxygen.

5 patients are under observation.

Meanwhile, 177 patients recovered in the last one day, pushing the total of recoveries so far to 238,884.

“130 from various health facilities countrywide while 47 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. ,” the Health Ministry said.

At the same time, Kenya’s COVID-19 death toll has hit 5,045 following a report of 27 new deaths.

“All the deaths are late reports made after conducting facility record audits inJune, July, August and September 2021,” the statement from MoH says.

Vaccination

Some 3,507,836 vaccines had been administered in the country as of September 22; 2,631,821 of these are the first doses while 876,015 are second doses.

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 33.6%,”the Ministry of Health said on Thursday

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.2 percent.
