Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate at 8.3% after 369 people test positive, 19 succumb

Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate was 8.3 per cent on Sunday, from the 369 new cases recorded, according to a statement by the Health Ministry.

The new infections, which came from 4,469 samples, bring the total number of confirmed positive cases to 160,422, with 1,679,779 samples tested.

There are 329 Kenyans and 40 foreigners among the cases, with 211 men and 158 women.

The youngest patient is a nine-month-old infant, and the oldest is ninety years old.

The distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (7),10-19 years (9), 20-29 years (54),30-39 years(109), 40-49 years (77),50-59 years (50),60 and above (63)

Across the country, the new cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi 153, Uasin Gishu 52, Meru 28, Kilifi 19, Kiambu 14, Nyeri 11, Mombasa 9, Taita Taveta 8, Kisumu 7, Laikipia 7, Machakos 6, Kitui 6, Bungoma 5, Kajiado 5, Embu 5, Mandera 3, Migori 3, Kakamega 3, Nakuru 3, Tharaka Nithi 3, Garissa 2, Homa Bay 2, Kirinyaga 2, Murang’a 2, Nandi 2, Narok 1, Nyamira 1, Nyandarua 1, Tana River 1, Lamu 1, Isiolo 1, Kericho 1, Kisii 1 and Makueni 1.

According to the docket, the total number of recoveries has risen to 108,861, with 72 patients recovering in the last 24 hours.

Health officials recognize all cases older than two weeks as recovered; 39 of the new recoveries came from Home Based Care and Isolation, while 33 came from different health centers.

At the same time, 19 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, 16 of which occurred on different dates in the previous month and three of which were late deaths discovered after facility record audits.

The Ministry of Health reports that 2,763 people have so far died in the country as a result of contracting COVID-19.

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (52), 10-19 years (20), 20-29 (102), 30-39 years (231), 40-49 years (359), 50-59 years (604), 60 years and above (1,395).

There are currently 1,298 patients in different health facilities throughout the country, with 6,652 patients on Home Based Isolation and Care.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 190 patients, 29 of which are on ventilatory support and 118 on supplementary oxygen. 43 patients are being monitored.

Another 130 patients are on supplemental oxygen, 122 of whom are in general wards and 8 of whom are in High Dependency Units (HDU).
