Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 8.4pc, 488 new cases recorded

Kenya’s total COVID-19 cases have hit 174,773 following 488 new infections tested from 5,831 samples announced by the Health Ministry on Friday.

So far, Kenya has tested 1,858,443 samples since the pandemic was reported.

The new infections represent a positivity rate of 8.4 per cent.

There are 481 Kenyans among the new infections and 7 foreigners; 315 are male while 173 are females.

The youngest patient is a three-month-old infant, while the oldest is 94 years old.

There are currently 969 patients in various health facilities across the country, with 4,827 individuals registered in the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has 162 patients, 30 of whom are on ventilatory support and 113 on supplementary oxygen. A total of 19 patients are being monitored.

Across the country, the new cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi 90, Busia 72, Siaya 71, Kisumu 35, Kericho 33, Uasin Gishu 27, Mombasa 23,Bungoma 21, Nakuru 14, Nandi 13, Homa Bay 11, Bomet 11, Kisii 9, Kirinyaga 8, Kakamega 7, Vihiga 6, Kiambu 5, Murang’a 4, Kilifi 4, Garissa 3, Kajiado 3, West Pokot 3, Kitui 2, Meru 2, Migori 2, Narok 1, Nyamira 1, Samburu 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1,Embu 1,Kwale 1and Machakos 1

At the same time, the Ministry of Health reported that 343 patients had recovered from the disease, with 69 from various health facilities across the country and 274 from Home Based Care and Isolation Programme.

The total number of recoveries is now 119,589, with 86,870 from Home Based Care and Isolation and 31,992 from other health facilities.

Meanwhile, 16 new deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease to 3,378.

The distribution of new deaths by age is as follows: 0-9 years (0),10-19 years (0),20-29 (0),30-39 years (1),40-49 years (3),50-59 years (1),60 years and above (11).

While the cumulative deaths by age are distributed as follow: 0-9 years (55),10-19 years (23),20-29 (110),30-39 years (276),40-49 years (416),50-59 years (698),60 years and above (1,800)
