Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate climbs to 3.3% after 75 cases recorded
The
Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that 75 people contracted COVID-19 from
a sample size of 2,248 tested in the last 24 hours, marking an increase in the
positivity rate to 3.3%.
From
the cases, 51 are Kenyans while 24 are foreigners; 39 are males and 36 are
females, while the youngest is a 6-year-old and the oldest is 72 years old.
Total
confirmed positive cases are now 324,349 and cumulative tests so far conducted
are 3,653,013.
The
cases were recorded in three counties, namely; Nairobi 59, Nyeri 12 and Kiambu 4.
Health
Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, said 36 patients recovered
from the disease, all of them from the Home Based and Isolation Care Program. This
pushes the total recoveries to 318,360.
However,
no patient has succumbed to the disease, therefore the cumulative fatalities
remain 5,651.
“There
are 3 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 335 are under
the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. No patient is in the Intensive Care
Unit (ICU), none is on supplemental oxygen and no patient is in the High
Dependency Unit (HDU),” noted CS Kagwe.
“As
of May 22, 2022, a total of 18,113,455 vaccines have been administered across
the country. Of these, 16,408,411 are doses administered to the adult population
(18 years and above).”
The
CS said 1,346,355 doses were administered to those between 15 to 17 years; 33,602
are below 15 years but above 12 years, while 325,087 are booster doses.
He
stated that the total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is
12,743 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours
is 5,925.
“Proportion
of adults fully vaccinated was 30.8%. The government is working towards
vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033,” noted Kagwe.
