Kericho Governor Mutai grilled by detectives over invasion of multinational tea companies

Kericho Governor Dr Eric Mutai has been questioned by detectives from the Criminal Investigating Department over the invasion of multinational companies in Kericho County.

Dr Mutai who was grilled for close to four hours by regional investigating officers in Nakuru, presented himself to the offices to record a statement on what he knows about the torching of tea plucking machines in tea farms as witnessed two weeks ago. 

“They haven’t given us any hint on whether they would like to see us, but it has been a very long stay there,” said Mutai.

“They have indicated to us that if they need us they will do an inquiry and if we are needed, they will call us and we told them that we will be ready.”

The Governor is among seven people interrogated today among them five WhatsApp group admins and two residents.

About 103 people were arrested two weeks ago in connection with demonstrations and destruction of property at the Ekaterra Tea Estate.

Last week, sleuths impounded 84 motorbikes in Kapsaos and Brooke on the outskirts of Kericho town regarding the incidents.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr Abdi Hassan later announced that six people had already been taken to court.

So far, 7 MCAs and a member of Parliament are among the political leaders and activists who are being grilled by DCI in Nakuru.
