Keroche CEO Tabitha Karanja elected Nakuru Senator

Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja has won the Nakuru Senatorial seat.

 Karanja was contesting on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, and garnered 442,864 votes.

Her main competitor, Lawrence Karanja, was contesting on the Jubilee Party ticket and managed 163,625 votes.

Speaking in Nakuru when she went to collect her nomination certificate, Karanja thanked area residents for turning up at the ballot in large numbers to elect her into office, noting that she will now focus on bettering the affairs of the county.

She was accompanied by her husband Joseph Karanja.

"I owe the Nakuru people my service since they have elected me.  I promise that I will work for you and thank you for trusting me. I will not let you down," said the Keroche CEO.

"I will represent all Nakuru people and their interests at the national level through the senate."  

The race to succeed Susan Kihika had attracted Boniface Mwai, an Independent candidate (7,223), Daniel Kimani of Ford Kenya (5,975), Abednego Gathenya (Independent) - 4,680, Thomas Mwangi (Independent) - 10,745, and John Mututho of ODM (36,472).

Others were Koigi Wamwere (Independent) - 6,335, Chrispus Wathimba (Independent) - 2,638 and Michael Wechuli of ANC who scored 2,580 votes.
