Kibue, Mbithi among top cops moved in new shake-up

In yet another security shake-up, the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has moved thirty two senior police officers in what he says is a way of enhancing the police service efficiency and effectiveness.

The shake-up has seen the immediate former Nairobi County Commander Benson Kibue, who had been omitted in a recent reshuffle involving County Commanders and Commissioners, has been appointed the Head of Operations at Vigilance House.

Kibue takes over from Philip Ndolo who has since been moved to head the Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU). Ndolo now takes over from Joseph Ole Tito who now becomes the Commandant Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU).

The General Service Unit (GSU) has received a new Commandant Mr. Toroitich Chelimo who has been serving as the Director of Inspection at the Police Headquarters. Toroitich replaces William Siaya, who now becomes the new Commandant Kiganjo Police College.

Mr. Rogers Mbithi, who was the centre of controversy early this year after he was accused of using a police helicopter to ferry his family from Mombasa in the wake of Garissa University College terror attack, has been moved from being the Police Airwing Commander to become the Director National Police service Airwing.

Mbithi takes over from John Patrick Owino Ochieng who has been posted to become the new Director Police Reforms in the Inspector General’s office.

The Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations Gideon Kimilu has been dropped and replaced by Joseph Ashimala. Mr. Kimilu has been moved to the Ministry of Interior for redeployment.

King’ori Mwangi, who attracted attention during the vetting process over his huge wealth accumulation, now replaces Ashimala as deputy to the new Deputy Inspector General of Police Joel Kitili who replace Grace Kaindi. Kaindi was appointed an Ambassador of Kenya by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Charlton Muriithi has been dropped from the position of Traffic Commandant and replaced by Jacinta Kinyua who was a Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police at Vigilance House.

Francis Mwangi is the new Regional Commander at the Coast while Judy Ndenda becomes the Commandant CID Training School.

Former Kiganjo Police College Deputy Commandant Noor Gabow now becomes acting Police Chief Transport Officer.

The changes come just two days after similar changes were done to County Commanders and County Commissioners.

IG Boinett said that the changes take effect immediately.
