Kilgoris: Boda boda rider arrested over murder of two prison officers, hunt on for main suspect
Police officers in Kilgoris have arrested a
boda boda operator who has confirmed that he transported two prison officers
who were murdered at Olemismis village in Metinkuar.
Detectives
are still pursuing Pius Lemiso Ndiwa, the main suspect who allegedly told his
sons that the prison wardens were not his colleagues but thugs.
This comes a day after a
multi-agency team was activated in the vast Transmara West in Kilgoris to aid
the arrest of Ndiwa, a retired prison warder who remains at large after his colleagues
were killed in cold blood.
According
to the boda boda operator, the slain officers had visited Kilgoris twice before
their untimely death. They both reached out to him to help trace Mzee Lemiso's
home where they were invited.
The
rider further revealed that he made a call to confirm with the family whether
they expected visitors.
Mzee
Lemiso's son enquired from him about the visitors who were en route to Metinkuar
for an unknown mission.
The
old man told his sons never to let the men searching for him get close. He
reportedly told his sons that his former colleagues were city thugs.
The
rider's statement says that Lemiso ordered his sons to get armed to repulse the
"strangers."
Citizen
TV has revealed that the slain officer Patrick Mukunyi Kuya, who was an
inspector, is said to have assisted Lemiso with a total of Ksh.400,000 in a bid
to fast-track his pension payment. Daniel Nairimo was also Lemiso's guarantor
and they agreed to visit Transmara after an official invitation to settle the
debt through a refund.
Little
did they know that their plans were to be cut short in Olemismis village.
Back
in Enosaen, the family and relatives of Daniel Nairimo are yet to come to terms
with the loss.
One of the deceased officer's
family members wants the police to get to the root cause of the heinous Thursday
killings.
Nairimo's
brothers described the murdered officer as a social and family pillar.
“Sisi
kama familia hakuna siku tutaridhika mpaka siku watashikwa, aliamua tu kuseti
hawa watu,” said Fredick Nairimo, Daniel's brother.
Charles
Nairimo, another brother to the deceased, added: “Tulipoona mwili wa ndugu yetu
alidungwa mishale tatu ikakwama alafu akakatwa shingo, tulishtuka sana.”
The
villagers had a special message to the government regarding the killings in
Transmara West.
“Chief
ako na wazee wake na haturidhiki tunataka watuambie huyo mzee ako wapi,
inaezakuwaje mtu mlikuwa mnakula pamoja mnapangia na kuuwa...ata kama hukutaka
kulipa deni,” John Ole Kalaran, a resident of Enosaen, said.
Post-mortem
examination of the deceased officers’ bodies is scheduled for Monday, while the
five suspects in custody are also expected in court on the same day.
