Speaking during the opening of the Third National Executive Retreat at KCB Leadership Centre in Kajiado, the Deputy President stated that President William Ruto had made tremendous progress in stabilising the economy during the post-COVID-19 era.
He also referenced other factors that had crippled the economy prior to President Ruto assuming office such as Russia-Ukraine war and high interest rates in USA whose ripple effects were felt on many countries including Kenya.
"To my mind, we're not in a bad state unless persuaded otherwise. I think we're on course. The last bit will require us to be more energetic, direct, and focused but we've made good progress in stabilising the economy; the macroeconomic fundamentals have been brought in check from fuel prices to inflation, cash reserve ratio, interest rates and other macroeconomic indicators," Kindiki noted.
The DP pointed out that it's expected for the incumbent government to undergo scrutiny from the public, owing to the popular agenda that got them elected in the 2022 elections.
"This administration was elected at a critical point in terms of the nation’s economic situation. We were elected on a very popular agenda, which was to create an inclusive economy; an economy that brings everyone onboard where the prosperity of the country is shared across economic classes," Kindiki remarked.
"The comments we hear every day on how far we are in the agenda are expected because we won under this radical, daring, and bold commitment."
Notwithstanding, DP Kindiki appealed to Kenyans to reflect on the progress made since Ruto's administration came into office. He cited low inflation rate, low fuel prices and stronger Kenyan currency among the developments that stabilised the economy
"Even as we contextualise where we are, let us remember where we came from and the heavy lifting that has gone in between," said Kindiki.
He urged the leaders to put more effort into fulfilling the campaign pledges in the final stretch to transform the country.
