Twenty-five people were on Monday seriously
injured after two matatus collided head-on at Research along the Mwea-Embu
highway in Kirinyaga County.
Police say the accident involved two
14-seater matatus belonging to Unique Shuttle and Neno Sacco where the injured
passengers sustained fractures on their legs and hands, cuts in their foreheads
and tissue injuries.
The Unique Shuttle matatu was heading towards
Mwea from Makutano while the Neno Sacco one was heading in the opposite
direction.
The driver of the Mwea-bound matatu failed
to observe lane discipline and encroached on the opposite lane, colliding head-on
with the oncoming matatu.
Nearby well-wishers rushed all passengers on
board to a private hospital at Mutithi.
Police said the injured were ages of 11 and
48 years.
