Kirinyaga: 2 sentenced to death for robbery with violence, kidnapping

Two men have been sentenced to death in Kirinyaga for robbery with violence, demanding money with menace, abduction, and handling a stolen phone.

Peter Kariuki Ndenge and John Mwangi Njagi had appeared before Kerugoya Law Court Chief Magistrate Samuel Shoita on Tuesday.

They were accused of robbing Cyrus Munene Mwenje of his motor vehicle and mobile phone all valued at Ksh.754,000.

The two also stole an unknown amount of money from Mr. Mwenje before injuring another person – Isaac Kariuki Munene – and killing a security guard identified as James Muriithi Mugwanja.

They abducted Mr. Mwenje and demanded ransom of Ksh.1million from his wife Faith Muthoni.

The suspects, however, killed Mr. Mwenje and dumped his body in a rice field at Nguka in Mwea after receiving Ksh.84,000 from his family.

They were found with the deceased’s phone at Gikomba in Nairobi County on October 15, 2013.

Two other suspects – John Mwangi Thuku and Blasius Kaburi Gakuya – were however acquitted for lack of evidence.
