Residents of Giacai
village in central Kirinyaga County are demanding immediate investigations into an incident where police officers allegedly stormed a local bar and roughed up customers for
unknown reasons, injuring some.
They say over 20
police officers stormed the bar and beat up patrons in the Friday night
incident. An elderly man was among those injured, leaving with a serious wound in the eye, one local said.
Solomon Njue told Citizen Digital that the officers, said to be from Kerugoya police station,
allegedly harassed women and made away with cash from the new bar which was being
opened.
He said the officers additionally
lobbed tear gas at the pub.
Kirinyaga Central Sub-county
police boss John Torori, when reached for comment, referred journalists to
his deputy, Lydia Linkanya, who said she was not aware police
officers were conducting an operation in Giacai village.
“I have launched an
investigation because I'm not aware of the Kirinyaga Central operation. I only
know about Kagio operations,” the Deputy OCPD said.
