Kisii: Man arrested for allegedly killing girlfriend in suspected love triangle
Police in Kisii are holding a middle-aged man for the murder
of a 22-year-old first year Kisii Polytechnic student described as his
ex-girlfriend.
Stephen
Orengo is said to have trailed Lucy Boke to her home on Thursday night and
murdered her over what neighbours and friends of the female student described
as a love gone sour.
The
suspect travelled from his home in Kuria West where he is on industrial
attachment to Kisii's Jogoo Estate to commit a crime armed with a sharp kitchen
knife.
Mary
Akinyi, one of Lucy’s best friends, is yet to come to terms with what happened
to her best friend who was to celebrate her birthday next week.
“Sasa
jana wakitoka shule huyo kijana alikuwa akitoka shule na kumbe alikuwa
anamfuata nyuma ata mvua ilikuwa inamyeshea hapa…alikataa kuenda ndio
akamsukuma Lucy ndani ya nyumba na akaanza kumpiga,” Akinyi explained.
Neighbours
at the scene say it was the first time they saw him around, unaware of his
intentions to commit the vile act.
Lucy was
murdered in her friend's house.
Everything
in the room was scattered, stains of blood on the floor as an indication of a
fierce fight before her estranged boyfriend overpowered Boke.
“Tulipata
amefunga nyumba kutoka ndani, wanafunzi walikuja wakaanza kubomoa nyumba ndio
wakapata Lucy amekufa na kijana alimfunika na na leso ya Maasai,” Ann Nyatichi
a neighbour, said.
Akinyi
added: “Kuna siku aliniambia kwamba boyfriend wake hataki kushughulikia mtoto
wa 9 months ndio alisema kama hawezi shughulikia mtoto basi waachane tu.”
Detectives
from Kisii Central Police Station combed the area and collected the kitchen
knife that the suspect allegedly used to commit the murder.
“Hii kisu
tulipata ikiwa na damu labda ndio ilitumika katika kisa hicho, we're told the
suspect had come to visit the lady from Migori,” Kisii Central sub-county
Police Commander Isaac Kimwele said.
The
suspect is currently at the Kisii Police Station as the police call on the
youth to handle their disputes in a better way.
“It's so
painful losing such a young lady, the younger generation needs to learn how to
deal with matters relationship,” Kimwele noted.
The body of the deceased is lying
at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting autopsy.
