Kisii: Police launch hunt for gang behind series of break-ins, night attacks
Police in Kisii have
launched a manhunt for a gang that has been terrorising
residents
of Mwembe area during night hours.
Business owners from Mwembe
market
have over the past week been counting losses following a
series of break-ins in their business premises that have led to them losing valuables of unknown value in what is emergeing as serious security concerns.
Speaking to Citizen digital,
Kisii Central OCPD Amos Ambasa said officers have been instructed to intensify
night patrols around Kisii town and its environs.
Over ten shops have been
broken into over the past week by the said gang, which is said to have
been carrying out its operations between 10pm
and midnight. They reportedly target electronics,
foodstuff, mobile phones, cereals and cash money.
On Wednesday, John Makori, a resident staying around Fort Jesus within Mwembe, was attacked along the stretch at around 10.30p.m by
middle-aged youth who intercepted his vehicle and ordered him to lie on the
ground before vanishing with valuables including the clothes he was putting on.
Police officers have since urged Kisii residents to
always report the cases and give more information for normalcy to be restored.
Similar incidences have also
been reported in Birongo, Kiamabundu, Menyinkwa and Egesa within Kitutu Chache
South sub-county.
This comes as the national government has outlined measures to curb a spate of attacks currently being witnessed in various parts of the country.
