Kisii youth back Sonko’s bid for Nairobi governor

A section of Kisii youth residing in Nairobi have launched a scathing attack on Governor Evans Kidero, accusing him of organizing meetings with a group purporting to be Kisii elders to seek their endorsement.

The youth group claimed the governor has been holding meetings with “Kisii elders” from other counties to claim that the community will support his re-election bid for Nairobi governor.

This comes just three days after Kisii leaders and professionals on Wednesday, July 26, endorsed Jubilee Party’s Senator Mike Sonko as their preferred choice for the City Hall top job.

The youths insisted that the community was solely behind Mike Sonko’s gubernatorial candidature, accusing Governor Kidero of failing the people of the city at large.

“We want to state here categorically that we, the Kisii community of Nairobi, are supporting Mike Sonko in the upcoming August polls. Dr Kidero has largely failed us. We overwhelmingly voted for him in 2013 but what he has left us with four years down the lane is poor roads, a dirty environment prone to cholera disease and deteriorating health system,” said one of the youth.

In addition, they also accused Dr Kidero of neglecting the needs of the Kisii community in his tenure, including sacking senior county officials from the community.

Governor Kidero, of ODM, is facing a stiff competition to defend his seat against Senator Sonko in August 8 polls, with recent opinion polls predicting  a dead heat race.

Other contestants in the much coveted Nairobi governor’s seat include independent candidates Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna.
