Three people injured in fight over market space at Uhuru business complex in Kisumu
Police in Kisumu have kicked off
investigations following ugly scenes witnessed on Tuesday at the Uhuru business
complex in Juakali area that left three people hospitalised with injuries.
Kisumu Central Sub County Police Commander
Anthony Maina says the three suffered cut wounds after two factions disagreed
over how to share spaces at the new market.
Maina says police were earlier called in to
restore normalcy following the morning clashes at the market which has been
earmarked for more occupancy following the second phase of traders’ relocation
in the city.
He said they have started investigations to
identify those behind the attacks, adding that police will record statements
from the three who are nursing injuries.
The police boss has called on the county government to ensure the process of sharing the trading spaces is done devoid of
such ugly scenes.
Hundreds of traders from Garissa lodge,
Nyamlori market and Apindi Street have been thronging the market to seek spaces
as the deadline for relocation draws near.
