Kisumu: Kodiaga prison inmate arrested after attempting to escape
An inmate at the Kodiaga Maximum Prison in Kisumu County who attempted to escape from the facility on Thursday evening has been rearrested.
The inmate, who was supposed to be released
from prison early next year, was nabbed by prison warders who launched a
manhunt following his escape.
According
to reports, he was apprehended at the Sabuni road area moments after boarding a tuk tuk.
Senior
Seargent Mika Osiga, who is based at the Kisumu Maximum Prison, was in charge of the
operation that led to the arrest of the inmate.
David
Dianga, the officer in charge of the maximum facility, confirmed the incident
saying the inmate attempted to escape while working at the staff quarters
within the prison.
He said
the inmate, upon interrogation, confessed that he had been feeling homesick
hence his attempted escape.
Dianga
consequently noted that action will be taken against any officer who is found
to have exercised laxity leading to the attempted escape.
