Kitale family says missing kin was abducted by rogue cops

Joseph Maina has been missing for two months, and the last time he was seen in public was on February 11th of this year at a restaurant.

Patrick, a bodaboda driver who ferried Maina to a meeting with people he said were friends, later said Maina left the meeting in handcuffs.

“Nliona tu akitoka ndani akiwa amewekwa pingu kwa mkono allikuwa na watu wawili ambao nilijua ni polisi sikutaka kuingilia kazi ya polisi,” Bodaboda operator Patrick Amayi told Citizen TV.

However, police are disputing witness reports of identified police officers escorting Maina away.

Police in Matisi, Kitale, have categorically denied any involvement in the disappearance of Maina, who is thought to have had a connection with some police officers.

According to Maina’s brother, police have made little progress in their investigations and are unwilling to provide the family with information about their relatives’ whereabouts.

The police deny the family’s claims.

Transzoia West OCPD Patrick Lobolia said it was not possible that Main was led out of the restaurant by police officers.

“Naweza kuwa maafisa wa polisi hawakuarrest huyo mtu anasemekana kupotea,” he said.

Lucy Shilako, who is married to Maina, is terrified of what may have happened to her husband.

Lucy has since submitted the uniform to IPOA in the hopes that they will provide her with the elusive answers regarding her husband’s unexplained disappearance.

Multiple witnesses stated that Maina engaged in suspicious activities as a police impersonator, and the family is curious as to his whereabouts; IPOA chairperson Anne Makori stated that the authority is investigating the case.
