KMA to challenge KRA’s electronic tax on health invoice systems

KMA officials at a press conference on Monday.

The Kenya Medical Association (KMA) has revealed plans to head to court to challenge introduction of electronic tax invoice management systems in the health sector by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

KMA, which has vowed to file a petition this week, has called on KRA to immediately withdraw the system which was introduced through the Finance Act, 2023.

The association argues that the move by the taxman is in breach of the constitution and confidentiality since the information captured will be bound to violation privacy.

It opines that parading Kenyans' data on the said system will subject the country into a great risk of abuse by others.

The medics led by the association's president Dr. Simon Kingondu and CEO Dr. Brenda Obondo noted that the move will also hinder diplomatic relations since doctors serve foreigners living locally who will protest their data being put on the said system.

They blame the government for introducing the concept without public participation.
