This follows a high-level meeting between KNCCI President Dr. Eric Rutto and the full board of FEC, which represents all major sectors of the DRC economy. The discussions focused on unlocking new bilateral opportunities and enhancing private-sector–led growth between the two nations.
In a major milestone for regional trade, the two organizations resolved to establish a DRC–Kenya Joint Business Council (JBC). The council will serve as a formal platform for continuous engagement, policy dialogue, and coordinated support for businesses operating across the two markets.
According to the resolution, the Joint Business Council will streamline collaboration, address trade bottlenecks, and harmonize efforts to promote investment flows. It is expected to play a central role in shaping cross-border partnerships, fostering competitiveness, and facilitating easier market access for businesses in both countries.
As part of the strengthened cooperation, KNCCI and FEC also committed to organizing two major trade missions over the next year — one in Kenya and the other in the DRC. The missions will bring together business leaders, government representatives, and investors to explore opportunities in key sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, energy, mining, and financial services.
The trade missions are expected to generate new deals, open fresh investment channels, and enhance awareness of market potential within the East and Central African region.
Decades-Long Partnership Set for Expansion
Commenting on the renewed momentum in Kenya–DRC relations, Dr. Rutto emphasized the deep historical ties between the two nations.
“DRC and Kenya have long-standing trade and economic relations that date back to the 1960s. Both countries stand to gain immensely by deepening this relationship,” Dr. Rutto said.
“We will work with our business counterparts in Congo to strengthen this partnership, expand trade opportunities in both countries, and create new pathways of prosperity.”
