KNUN issues another nurses strike notice

The Kenya National Union Nurses (KNUN) on Friday issued a 60-day strike notice.

While issuing the notice, KNUN Secretary General Seth Panyako said that nurses will down their tools on May 4, 2019 if their grievances fall on deaf ears.

According to Panyako, the union has started the process of collecting signatures from Kenyans, in a bid to push for the formation of a health commission that will cater for their needs.

The notice comes just two days after the three-week long countrywide nurses strike was called off.

The announcement on Tuesday was after he was summoned to appear in person in court for disobeying court orders to which he defended himself saying that he had not been served with the order directing him to call of the strike.

The nurses strike comes following the expiry of notice issued to various county governments and the national government in December last year demanding fulfillment of their negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The nurses have also pointed an accusing finger at the council of governors claiming the council is blocking counties from implementing the collective bargaining agreement they signed in 2017.

Panyako on Friday faulted Council of Governors chairman Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as an impediment in the quest to improve the health sector in the country.
