The workshop, held at the Smart City, highlighted Japanese innovations in areas like data centers, broadband infrastructure, Open RAN, energy and smart network solutions, that are aligned to Kenya’s national development priorities.
During his keynote address, ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui welcomed the collaboration with Japanese partners, saying it would be a boost to Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
"We are particularly interested in partnerships that create jobs, build skills, and foster innovation for young Kenyans. The digital future of our economy is paramount, and this collaboration with Japan is pivotal in accelerating our journey," PS Tanui remarked.
The Japanese delegation was led by Nomura Eigo, Director-General from the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC) and included representation from leading Japanese firms such as Hitachi, Sumitomo Corporation, Fujita, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, NEC, Rakuten, SoftBank and Nichiei International.
Konza Technopolis CEO John Paul Okwiri welcomed the partnerships that would leverage the exceptional talent of Kenyan youth.
"We invite them to set up base and exploit the vast opportunities available within Konza Technopolis, which is a special economic zone,” said Okwiri.
