Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani has awarded tenders to four women-led groups in Kubo South Ward, Matuga Sub-county, as part of a strategic initiative aimed at fostering economic empowerment and job creation among women.

The tenders, collectively worth KSh 4.5 million, were issued to Lutuma Ltd Company in partnership with Hatua Kwa Hatua VSLA for the equipping of a borehole and supply of chairs at Lukore Social Hall. Another contract was awarded to DORJUFLO Ltd Company in collaboration with Jitegemee VSLA for the rehabilitation of the Shimba Hills water supply system.

Governor Achani, speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lukore ICT Hub, reiterated her administration’s commitment to supporting women in the formation and registration of business entities. This, she said, would enable them to access tenders at both the county and national government levels.

“When women come together to form companies, they not only uplift their families but also contribute to the development of the entire county,” Governor Achani said. “My administration is keen to ensure that women are not left behind in economic opportunities.”

The governor emphasized that issuing tenders to women is a deliberate strategy to drive employment creation and foster financial independence, especially in rural areas.

Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza, who was also present at the event, praised the county government for its consistent support of grassroots development efforts and local enterprises. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting inclusive and sustainable development.

Mathew Kaili, a member of Kimak Limited from Kubo South, shared that his group had been awarded a KSh 9.6 million tender for a water pipeline extension project. He noted that the project not only improved local infrastructure but also had a direct positive impact on their livelihoods.

“After completing the project, we had a surplus which we used to support our families and improve our economic stability,” said Kaili.

Kwale County currently has over 300 registered women and youth group companies, with more than 40 having successfully secured tenders from the county government. Past beneficiaries include Chigato Women Group, which was awarded a tender to supply water pipes, and Tunusuru Women Company, which won a contract to construct market stalls.

Governor Achani’s administration continues to champion inclusive development by empowering women and youth through structured procurement opportunities.
