Protestors gathered around Nairobi’s Central Business District on Thursday demanding the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of the National Police Service, Eliud Lagat.

The protestors were heard chanting, “No justice, No budget” in reference to the reading of the 2025/26 National Budget by the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, John Mbadi.

Amid ‘Lagat must go’ chants, the protesters called for justice for Albert Ojwang, a teacher and blogger killed on Sunday after a social media post allegedly defaming DIG Lagat.

Ojwang was arrested at his home in Homa Bay and transported to Nairobi’s Central Police Station before his death.

Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja, in an earlier press briefing had revealed the arrest was made following a complaint lodged by DIG Lagat.

Members of the public and a section of leaders have since demanded Lagat’S resignation over the death of Ojwang’.

Officials from the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have appeared before the Senate to answer questions surrounding the death of Ojwang’.
